It was in recognition of the great work done by Rev. Hugh Goldie, a Scottish missionary, in the area of manpower development for the then Eastern Nigeria that the institution was named after him. HGLTTIA’s vision statement is CHRISTIAN THEOLOGICAL EDUCATION FOR LIBERATION/EMPOWERMENT, NATION BUILDING, SOCIAL TRANSFORMATION AND DEVELOPMENT, while its mission statement is TO DISCOVER, DEVELOP, DEPLOY AND ENJOY POTENTIALS TO OVERCOME THE HUMAN CAPITAL CHALLENGE IN NIGERIA.

HGLTTIA is, thus, very much concerned and committed to practical involvement in Public Theology and Community Development as indispensable aspects of its visionary theological enterprises. As an affiliate institution of Abia State University, Uturu, and our strong emphasis on morality and community development, our students now come from different denominations and from the various ethnic groups that make up Nigeria.
